California Warns HR 1 Medicaid Cuts Could Strip Coverage From Millions

Assembly Health Committee Chair Mia Bonta opened an informational hearing Tuesday with a stark warning: proposed federal cuts to Medicaid and related health programs would strip billions of dollars from California’s health care system, leaving millions of residents without coverage and placing severe strain on hospitals, clinics and county safety nets.

“The federal dollars which once supported health care for working families are now being funneled into mass deportation operations, operations that resulted in tragic murders by federal agents of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minnesota, Silverio Villegas González in Illinois, and Keith Porter here in California. This is where our health care funding is going,” said Assemblymember Mia Bonta.
